If you cross France
from North to South or East to West your route will cross the
department of the Allier, the old province of Bourbonnais and the
birth place of a family, the destiny of whom has for a long time
been confused with that of the region.
We suggest that you leave the main roads and take the ‘Route des
Eglises Peintes du Bourbonnais’ to discover one of the least known
aspects of the area, that of a richness artistic that has been
forgotten for far too long.
The wall paintings and frescos of the churches that line this route
constitute an inestimable patrimony of the Middle Ages, roman and
gothic.
Along the journey you will discover the wooded landscapes, the spa
towns, the gardens and the numerous castles that are scattered over
the countryside. It would also be an occasion to visit the National
Museum of Costume and Scenery or Le Pal , all a very good reason to
make a stop in this welcoming countryside.
